Internal Parasites

Internal parasites, including roundworms, are passed from the mother to her babies.  Roundworms cycle through the pet's body and produce infectious ova (eggs) which are spread in the feces and can be ingested by humans, most commonly, small children.  This is one reason why it is so important to treat all pets for internal parasites regularly, starting at birth.  We advise all new puppy owners to administer Heartgard Plus every 2 weeks until 4 months of age and then monthly for life.  Heartgard Plus has two active ingredients – ivermectin, which kills heartworm larva, and pyrantel, which kills adult roundworm species in the intestine.
